1933 R71 “Hunted Animals” Overview


This series of 25 “Hunted Animals” trading cards was issued by Planters Nut & Chocolate Company, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; Suffolk, Virginia; San Francisco California during 1933. This series of 25 trading cards was issued with BIG GAME Peanut Blocks. The untitled card fronts feature color artwork of a “Hunted Animal” surrounded by a medium-size border. The only text on the card front is the following copyright line … “© 1933 W.F.P. CO.”.

The Backs of the cards are divided into three vertical sections: (1) The top left section contains the card number in large letters. The top right section has three lines identifying the card series: (a) of a series of twenty-five (b) HUNTED ANIMALS (c) Trapped animals to follow. (2) The center section of the card Back contains the title of the card, and includes a descriptive text of the particular animal being hunted. (3) The lower section of the card Back is sectioned off with a thick black line followed by the following three lines of advertising text: (a) BIG GAME Peanut Blocks (b) Planters Nut & Chocolate Company (3) Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Suffolk, Va., San Francisco, Cal. The cards measures 48.2 × 59.9 mm. The American Card Catalog number for the set is R71. The 1933 Canadian version of the “Hunted Animals” 25-card set has an ACC number of the V131. The cards in the Canadian V131 set are much larger than their American counterparts … 64 × 89 mm.
